Note how the National Mall ends at the incomplete Washington Monument and that there is a canal where Constitution Avenue runs today. The locations of many of today's most prominent landmarks such as the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, The Korean War Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the Martin Luther King Memorial and the Roosevelt Memorial are all still part of the Potomac River during this time.
